Five things about me!
Hi everyone,
With the new federal administration, there’s a lot going on right now. At some point I’ll address how I see the role of Minneapolis and I as an elected official in all of it. But I also think it’s critical to maintain a sense of humor and levity in the face of challenging times. And that is why I give you five facts about me that you absolutely need to know of your elected officials.
My wordle stats. People think having a PhD in linguistics automatically makes me great at word games but I can tell you the skillsets are not necessarily overlapping. I almost always use the same starter word: STARE. If you regularly use a starter word with the letter Q, I need to know why.
What’s my dominant hand? I’m a lefty! If you are left-handed, do you feel it’s part of your identity? A little bit for me. But I do make myself brush my teeth with both hands – it’s good for our minds to try new things.
Where I’ve lived in Minneapolis. Maybe the better question is, “Where have I not lived?” I have lived in the following Minneapolis neighborhoods:
Stadium Village
Dinkytown
Marcy-Holmes
East Maka Ska
Powderhorn
Central
Whittier
Lowry Hill – I lived here during grad school and fell in love with the area. I would run around Lake of the Isles to relieve grad school stress!
East Isles – I bought my first home in 2020 and have lived here ever since.
What generation am I? I consider myself a Xennial. If you haven’t heard of this term, Xennials are a micro-generation born between 1977 – 1983. I was so happy when I discovered this concept because I had been asking myself if I was a Gen X-er or a Millenial and neither fully fit. I don’t relate to Depeche Mode like some of my older friends, but I also can’t listen to audio books at 1.5x speed like my brother, who is a true millennial.
Something I’m bad at. I guarantee you that everyone who knows me would say “being handy”. So why did nobody warn me before I bought an old house by myself? Fortunately, I have people around me who can help. But one family member did feel they needed to leave the room when I used a drill for the first time. Such a vote of confidence! ;)
